I got a nice welcome back to US food with a bacon burger and crispy sweet potato fries at E&E Grill House.
I was looking forward to a lunch at Napa as my last meal before leaving Shanghai but I got invite to the Brew BBQ. Not quite the BBQ back in the states, but not bad for the money.
We had a couple of hours to walk through the Lord Bao park. It seems his qualities inspired many of the Chinese operas.
Based on a recommendation we went to Swan Lake for the last meal before departing Hefei. This turned out to be a mistake. I should have known better when I saw the meat hanging to dry at the entrance of … Continue reading
I felt something was off when I heard someone snoring as my tax was weaving through Shanghai traffic. I look up in the mirror to see my taxi driver sleeping soundly as our car seemed to be on auto pilot. … Continue reading
The breakfast downstairs is not that great. So, I decided to get room service. It worked out ok
After a recruiting talk, we came back to Westin to have dinner at Five Sen5es. We had the restaurant all to ourselves. We had lively conversation and a relaxing dinner.
We took a stroll around campus before our talks. The lake is at the center of campus and seems like a nice place to relax.
The Westin Lounge in Hefei is not as nice as in Xian, but I had some time to hang out. Got a bit of tea and fries while I waited for our meetings.
Our first stop in Hefei was lunch. We got some recommendation to try Reding restaurant. The name seemed to translate to Red Hat Restaurant. The duck is a mandatory choice. It was a pretty decent lunch that we ordered a … Continue reading
I had a chance to try Korean BBQ on Mehua Rd aka Gutter Oil Street. The 98 rmb lunch special is pretty good value. The meat was quite decent. The manager is also quite service oriented.
I just finished paperwork for my new apartment. We went over to QIan Restaurant for a lunch. The food had a light kick and earthy taste. Pretty decent.
This street in Hangzhou has a number of interesting shops.
This is the first time I stay in a place that has a pop up TV. Given flat screen technology, these things may not be so practical any more, but still interesting to see in action.
We had a return trip to Spicy Lab for dinner. I managed to get a good workout at the gym before hitting the bbq of various meats. There were also a variety of hot pots set up too. I forgot … Continue reading

We explored the property a bit after dinner and came across a private dining room which I would call the pink room. It was quite interesting feel.
After a long day of interviews, I had a drink at the Mix Bar Westin. The drinks are not bad and the music not too heavy. It was a nice chill with some samosa to munch on.
I had a quick walk around half the garden at Four Seasons before grabbing breakfast at WL Bistro. The breakfast selection is nice and fresh. Bacon was not as crispy as I would like, but still ok.
The views of the pools, gardens, and hotel from WL Bistro are great. The food is quite nice too.
The Japanese restaurant at Westin Xian is not the best tasting but it does have decent value.
We dropped by the wall to shop for goodies to take home.
This hot stuff really is insane.
Small Shell seems to be a popular seafood restaurant for the Xian locals. We had a nice lunch in between interviews and presentations.
Duo is supposed to be the best Spanish restaurant in Xian. I don’t know how many Spanish restaurants there are in Xian, but I do think the food and service are pretty good. We even got a bit of live … Continue reading
Had a nice walk along West Lake.
On our first day in Hangzhou, we had lunch at West Lake State House. It is on the quiet side of the lake and some great views. The food is quite good too.
We had a nice time on a chilly night at Lost Heaven. Although it was a Monday night, the place was pretty full. We went mostly vegetarian and it was all good.
I had some visitors from US in Shanghai. We did high tea at Peace Hotel with the live jazz. It was a nice experience for the visitors.
I managed to get down to Liuli Musuem Cafe since I happen to be in the neighborhood of Tianzifang. The Italian sandwich was interesting. I ended up peeling off each layer and eating like a New Yorker eats pizza.
We tried a pretty basic Teppanyaki lunch which was pretty good value. Not much entertainment value but food and service were good.
We had a Restaurant Week lunch set at the Waldorf. I probably would have prefer to order off the regular menu, but the set was ok.
On to another lunch for Restaurant Week, we had a nice value for money lunch. I chose to break away from the standard menu and order oysters and burger. That turned out to be a good choice.
We had dinner at La Maison for Restaurant week. The owners did a nice job with building out the restaurant. They can probably do a better job with their internet footprint. It is not that easy to find reference to … Continue reading
We got another visit to The Cut: Steak and Fries for Restaurant Week. We got a juicy wagyu burger. The fries were not as good as last time, but still decent.
We did Black Pepper for Restaurant Week. They have a pretty good selection for Restaurant week. I think the zucchini pancakes were quite good.
For the first day of Restaurant Week, we tried Camelia at 4 Seasons. The food tasted nice enough but the service was slow and less than ideal at the restaurant and at the taxi stand. It is not what I … Continue reading
Another regular safe bet, California Pizza. Restaurant week starts tomorrow
The Grill room is a bit on the quiet side these days. I am not sure if their pricing and choice works well for lunch. Maybe they do better for dinner
